Easport Lobsters

On returning from our tour with Don to Salvage, Sid and Judy put on the best seafood spread that you could ever wish to have. The main could was fresh lobsters right out of the pot. Here Judy in bring a tray of the beautiful creatures to the table, her smile tells all. Sid is in the background preparing more lobsters for the table. What a feed. Thanks Sid and Judy for being such great hosts.

Eastport Ice

Yesterday, Saturday May 17, 2008, we had the pleasure of having Don and Mildred visit Eastport and spend the night at Clayt's cottage. In the afternoon Clayt took Don on a tour of the beautiful communities within a short drive from Eastport. Sid and Gerry tagged along as well and at Salvage, we took some nice pictures. This one shows an iceberg off in the distance.

Cabin Repairs

On inspecting a bad spot in the ranchwall on the southside of the Cabin in Millville, I found that sveral places contained progressing rot. On removing some to the ranchwall, found that felt had been used over the studs, and no rot, which was a major relief, as it is a big job to replace studs. Clayt and I then set about to install new 3/8 plywood, as ranchwall of the type used on the cabin when it was built, is no longer available. We chaulked the seems and did a really good job of installing the new siding.

Clayt looks to be happy with job. Later that day he painted it and made it look like a professional job

Codroy Valley

Clayt and I went to the Codroy Valley on May 9th., returning to Gander on May 13th, 2008. We had to get out for a lunch and as we had to go to Port Aux Basques, we decided to have lunch on the old Trans Canada Highway bridge at Barachois Brook. The weather cooperated in that it was a bit cool because of the northerly breeze, but sunny breaks made it enjoyable. A refreshment and a great lunch in the great outdoors can have a very relaxing effect, and in this picture Clayt is relaxed and enjoying looking at the surrounding that were familiar to him as a boy growing up in Port Aux Basques. The next pictures shows the two of us. I placed the camera on a post on the opposite side of the bridge, which was a little far away.

Good flow of water flowing down the brook. A big drop from the bridge to the brook as the picture shows.
Picture taken by Clayt of me just waiting for the kettle to boil.

Mother's Day

Barb was really surprised and pleased to receive such a nice flower arrangement for Mother's Day from Robert, Renee, Matthew and Allison. In the background you will note seedlings in the picture window, growing well and just waiting for the ground to warm up

Spring Break-up

Here is a nice picture looking out over South West Arm in Terra Nova National Park. The ice is finally breaking up creating beautiful scenery and a photographers delight.

In the next picture, of course I couldn't miss the opportunity in having my picture taken with such a beautiful setting. So, here I am ready for the trail on the way home after a fabulous hike

Gander Lake Hike

Hike to Gander Lake with Clayt on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Clayt is looking around for a nice place to have lunch, as is our usual practice, when hiking to have a enjoyable lunch, which is sometimes the best part, depending on the weather. This day turned out to be nice, and we looked at it as being the first sign of spring.
On Friday, April 18, 2008, Clayt and I hiked in Terra Nova National Park up to the Malady Campground, which was still pretty much snow covered. We had to use snowshoes, and in places it was hard going. On reaching our goal, Clayt put on a fire in the woodstove in the Park Shelter. It was so nice and sunny, no wind, that we decided to have refreshments and lunch outdoors on a Park bench. Here I am enjoying a refreshment prior to lunch.
Here is Clayt enjoying a refreshment, looking very comfortable in the sun.

On Saturday, April 19, 2008, another hike in Terra Nova Park. This time to South West Arm. Pictured here is Clayt enjoying lunch consisting of smoked herring, cheese, Spanish onions, and Barb's homemade bread. He looks pretty happy

Las Vegas Trip

Enroute to Las Vegas for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Here we are in the Air Canada Lounge at Toronto International Airport awaiting our flight to Las Vegas. We travelled business class all the way, so we were well taken care of, and made the long flight a lot more comfortable, not to mention the meals and the drinks. Umm...some good.
