Still got the snow

This is what greeted us when we got back from Las Vegas.

Looking at our neighbours across the street

And here is the front of the house. It be awhile before this snow goes. Oh to be in Las Vegas!!!

On December 2, 2007 we had our first fall of snow. I was in Eastport that weekend with Eric Button and Ron Kelly. We hiked into Dunphy's Pond on Saturday December 1st with not a flake of snow to be seen. The trip was memorable because "one match Eric" uncharacteristically needed help getting a fire going near the enclosure at the end of the trail. On Sunday morning when we left Eastport for Gander, it wasn't all that bad but by the time we reached the TCH it was rough enough. It took ~ 2hours to drive back in treacherous conditions, a trip which under ideal circumstances takes 55 minutes. Gander received 46 cms of snow with that storm but the people of the Bonavista Peninsula suffered most with a prolonged power outage caused by heavy snow, freezing rain and high winds. Power officials said it was the worst storm damage they witnessed in over 10 years. It was a hellish start to what has developed into a harsh winter. It seems to have been snowing ever since. The climatologist says NL receives on average 11% of it's total snowfall after April 1st. Heaven help us!
